I grew up in Adelaide as a child, painting and building all sorts of plastic and lead model kits along with drawing which helped scratch my creative itch.
I have fond memories growing up with a sketched drawing pad, that as a child, my mother drew of her favourite Walt Disney characters and I remember the joy it put on my face every time I looked through it.
After leaving school I took up a carpentry career that further extended my tactile, fine motor and perspective skills. Many years after leaving my Carpentry career and during a visit to friend’s workshop seeing a lead pencil piece he’d completed and hung on the wall, I concluded that I needed more creativity back into my daily life.
With that in mind, after a 30year hiatus from drawing in any media, I was inspired to put pencil on paper to get back in touch with my creative self.
I wanted to create the same thing my mother did so I could bring that same joy to my own children.
Through this journey, friends commented how they loved my drawings and I started to gain more confidence to share them outside my own family.
I discovered that I loved drawing animals more than anything else and after sharing a few I decided to enter a local art competition. Well to my surprise and delight I took out my category and people asked why they were not up for sale.
This led me to creating a Facebook page and my own website.
The last couple of years I have focused on my Photorealistic style.
Where possible, direct contact with my subject matter has enabled me to capture their own individuality and personality. I have tried many mediums including lead, pastels, pan pastel and coloured pencils but currently heavily involved using and exploring coloured oil and wax based pencils using quality paper in varied textures.
All drawings are done on A3 High Quality Paper using on High quality Pencils to reduce the risk of fading over time and ensuring it will last for years to come.
Prices start at $395AU for 1 subject.
